Cali, Colombia

We flew to Cali early on Tuesday morning after four days in Cartagena. The flight from the North of Colombia to close to the South border with Ecuador took one and a half hours. From Cali we will take a bus across the border after a couple of nights in places in between, namely Popayán and Pasto.

Our plane!

We travel the 20 kms between the airport and the city by bus (the driving is as mad as in Cartagena)

At the bus station in Cali

We walk through the city to our hotel. It's on the other side and takes over an hour, but we have time to kill as we are early.

We climb the mountain in the background tomorrow, it's higher than it looks

Interesting artwork on a building

The entrance to our hotel. The place was amazing considering it cost next to nothing!

Albert, the owner of our hotel. At least there were few communication problems here as he's North American, been living here for 22 years
The street from the hotel. It wasn't exactly located in the centre but Cali is a BIG place

Apologies for so many pictures of this cat, it was determined to get a piece of Craig's pizza!

We head off to climb to "Las Tres Cruces", a mirador and religious focal point from the city. The focal point has been completely ruined by the erection of various communication towers.

We are surprised at how far up the mountain the urban sprawl continues...

The three crosses, and lots of comms towers

Craig, and the centre of Cali

I had to wear my t-shirt on my head to stop getting sunburnt! We had a conversation with the guy selling drinks from the shack behind me. 71 years old and carrying LOTs of bottles of water and drinks in ice on his shoulder 10 kms every day, I should have got a photo of him

We went up one side and came down the other (only 'cos we got lost going up!). Here's the overspill on the other side.

Police are stationed daily up here

A police 'shack'

Looking back up on the way down, hardly picturesque
