Currently blogging from a pub in La Paz, Bolivia.
Arequipa is Peru's second largest city next to Lima, although it's only a tenth of the size. We were there just over a week ago and only stayed for one night. We took the bus from Nazca and it took almost 10 hours. We arrived at our hostel at almost midnight and I asked the guy at the reception where the bars were. His jaw almost dropped and he said "es muy peligroso" (it's very dangerous) so we decided to give it a miss!
The following day we wandered around and had a few beers before catching a night bus to Cuzco. We were quite impressed with the place and we actually paid to go into an old
monastery as it was listed as the star attraction. Almost all of the images here are of the monastery, built around 500 years ago. The nuns (not monks) were completely cut off from the rest of society, the entire place being walled off. A small number of nuns still live here, but in a newly built section of the place.
Don't worry - there's far more interesting pictures to come (Machu Picchu and our solo 4 day expedition to get there)!
